Torrance, CA – August , 2009 - Stewart Filmscreen Corporation®, the industry leader in precision projection screen technologies for the commercial and residential markets, announced that its StudioTek 100 recently received an Editor’s Choice Award from and praise from Sound & Vision magazine.

Stewart Filmscreen develops each screen material based on its intended use. There is no good, better, best product categorization of a Stewart screen material. Rather, Stewart determines which screen material to recommend based on several criteria including the amount of ambient light present, projector and room environment.

With that said, the StudioTek 100, a seamless flexible front projection matte-white screen, was primarily developed for use in post-production facilities and optical lab scenarios were critical evaluation of the source material is required.
This one gain material is an optimal lambertian diffuser and disperses light in a near perfect hemispherical distribution allowing for smooth, even light reflection.

Designed for maximum white field uniformity and detail clarity when used with 1080p projectors, the StudioTek 100 exhibits unsurpassed uniformity with a maximum of 2% variance between different areas of the screen. Because of this, the StudioTek 100 is suburb for multi-projector edge blending allowing for smooth transitions of overlapping images.

According to Evan Powell in’s review, “The StudioTek 100 comes closer to perfect neutrality than any projector screen we've ever seen. It has perfect color balance, near-perfect 1.0 gain at all points, no half-gain angle, and a smooth, pristine HD surface. It is a professional screen for use in absolute light controlled rooms. It is ideal for situations in which you want to see exactly what the projector is delivering, with no interpretive nuance being added by the screen. We have given the StudioTek 100 an Editor's Choice Award. It is highly recommended for professional use in absolute light controlled conditions.”

Brent Butterworth found when comparing the StudioTek 100 to the the Da-Lite Affinty in a recent Sound & Vision magazine screen round up, “the StudioTek’s brightness was more uniform across the screen. (In fact, it was essentially perfect.)”

“We are so pleased to have the StudioTek 100 recognized with this award and called “essentially perfect” by Sound & Vision magazine. This material was designed to provide a true representation of the source content. The StudioTek
100 does not have any image enhancing properties allowing viewers to see exactly what the director intended. Although the StudioTek 100 is an optimal screen material for rooms in which ambient light can be controlled, we recommend StudioTek 130, FireHawk and GrayHawk RS for most home theater environments. These image-enhancing screens are designed to compensate for lost contrast and brightness attributed to environment conditions or projector type,” said Don Stewart, Vice President of Stewart Filmscreen.

Stewart Filmscreen Materials for Home Theater Applications
StudioTek 130 G3 is a flexible front projection screen material that is formulated to provide optimized white field uniformity unmatched by competing gain screens. It is 30% brighter than matte-white material and is a studio industry standard reference screen. The StudioTek 130 G3 offers superior performance in environments where ambient light can be controlled.

The FireHawk G3 is a flexible front projection screen surface that offers superb color and white field uniformity and is optimized to significantly improve contrast ratios, regardless of the projector type. It is a perfect choice for front projection applications where ambient light may be present providing increased black levels, shadow detailing, and superior color saturation.

GrayHawk RS G3 is an innovative front projection screen surface designed to maximize the performance of today’s 1080p technology. The G3’s ultra-fine optical coating improves uniformity for consistent brightness across the entire screen. This unique feature, combined with the neutral density gray base, dramatically increases black levels, shadow detailing and overall color saturation providing the viewer with maximum resolution and superb image quality. GrayHawk RS G3 is an excellent tool for lowering the black floor with high output projectors, without losing off axis performance and viewing cone width.

StarGlas 60 is the world’s most unique video screen, it is a multi-layer glass rear projection black screen material formulated to offer unsurpassed contrast levels. StarGlas 60 performs excellent even in high ambient light environments and can be used in a wide variety of settings including outdoors. The perfect viewing experience is also enhanced by the high level of soundproofing StarGlas 60 provides between the projector and the audience.

“Stewart’s wide variety of screen materials make it possible to create the best viewing environment within your home regardless of projector type, ambient light conditions or room size. Our staff of expert product specialists are eager to solve your design challenges,” stated Don Stewart, Vice President of Stewart Filmscreen.

Stewart Filmscreen’s StudioTek 100 along with their image-enhancing screens can be seen in Booth 837 at the Georgia World Congress Center during the CEDIA EXPO in Atlanta, GA. starting September 10, 2009.
